The Kamado App is my own product: a place for everyone who cooks on a kamado, the egg-shaped ceramic charcoal barbecue. Each recipe gives the grill temperature, the timings and every step, and a knowledge base explains why it works, so next time you can do it on your own.
I designed and built it from first idea to the apps in the stores. The website, the iOS app and the Android app all run on a single Ruby on Rails application: Hotwire Native wraps the web pages in native apps, so a new feature ships on all three platforms at once.

-
Recipes that explain themselves
Every recipe comes with its temperature, timings and steps, and can be filtered by cooking method, from direct grilling to low & slow, and by protein.
-
Written once, read in two languages
Authors write in their own language; recipes are translated automatically between Dutch and English, so the whole site is bilingual.
-
Native apps with Hotwire Native
The iOS and Android apps in the App Store and Google Play share their screens with the website, with native navigation around them.
-
A cook log
Check off ingredients and steps while cooking, then save the cook with photos, notes and a rating.
-
Knowledge base and core temperatures
Guides on lighting the kamado, controlling the temperature with the vents and cooking low & slow, with a reference of core temperatures per type of meat.
-
Profiles for the community
Cooks can opt in to a public profile page with the recipes they publish; profiles are private by default.
